Financing Peruvian artisanal fishing enterprises

The project provides demand-led technical assistance to the Peruvian Trust Fund for National Parks and Protected Areas (PROFONANPE) to design a GCF concept note to scale up and replicate the adaptation measures that were developed and achieved with the the Adaptation Fund project “Adaptation to the impacts of climate change in the coastal ecosystem of Peru and its fisheries'’ which obtained technical data to develop scenarios of vulnerability and impacts of climate chan ge on marine ecosystems and their fishery resources and build a knowledge management strategy The scaling-up phase of the project aims to strengthening of the resilience, growth and financing of artisanal fishing communities, informing and influencing fisheries management policies at local and national levels continuing the sectoral promotion of fisheries and aquaculture in the face of climate change, aligned with the Peruvian’s NDCs. Peru approved the National Adaptation Plan in 2021 AND has a multisectoral approach, with priorities focused on reducing risks and vulnerability, as well as increasing the capacity to adapt to climate-related hazards. This plan establishes priorities in five areas: Health, Water, Agriculture, Fishing and Aquaculture, and Forests. The fishing and aquaculture thematic area focuses on the three main activities in Peru: artisanal fishing, industrial fishing, and aquaculture. Additionally, the adaptation NDCs includes at least three adaptation measures focused in improving artisanal fisheries technical capacities, policies and regulations, the PIN contributes directly to these and will be implemented in three regiones prioritized by the GoP. Also, the PIN is aligned with the National Policy on Aquaculture to 2030.
