In Colombia, 505,981 households lack access to electricity. The government has committed to provide sustainable electricity services to 100,000 households by 2022, to close the electrification gap before the end of the decade. The new Energy Transition Law assigned the MME the task of transforming energy generation in off-grid areas (ZNI) to shift from diesel generators – which today account for 92% of energy generation in ZNIs – to renewable energy sources with a GHG mitigation target of 4.74 – 7.99 Mt CO2 eq.
