Guyana Urban Sector Solar Energy Program (USSEP)

Guyana’s energy sector is dominated by the public sector and heavily dependent on imported fossil fuels. Development of renewable energy is still at a very early stage. This project targets the commercial and manufacturing sectors to reduce their reliance on expensive and polluting diesel-based self-generation and save costs associated with damages to equipment and appliances resulting from voltage fluctuations. As a result, this project is expected to catalyze the transformation of the sector through private sector participation in the solar market. Since the solar market is at a very early stage in Guyana, awareness building combined with technical and business development support for the private sector are included as key components of the project.
