Sagar Energy Solutions BV (NL) and Sagar Energy Solutions Company Limited (TZ) are a mother and daughter company, dedicated to bringing renewable energy solutions to niche and artisanal industries in developing countries. Starting in the productive fishing industry of Tanzania, the companies have developed a solar product to completely eradicate the use of kerosene in the night fishing industry of Lake Victoria, an industry responsible for over half of the total yearly catch of the Lake. Our focus is on designing such products that can close the renewable energy cycle, ensuring increased incomes at the base of the pyramid in order to lead to improved standards of living through other access to energy initiatives and SDG components. The TA fund will thus contribute to a successful commercialisation of this first product in order to build the business and reach the desired levels of impact - people, profit, planet. Not only does the product have the potential to eliminate over 480,000 tonnes of CO2 every year emitted by the currently used kerosene lanterns, but it will also lead to increased incomes by up to 40%, and significantly improve the health and safety of fishermen currently exposed to several long term health risks caused by kerosene as well as the imminent threat of kerosene explosions due to the pressurised nature of the current lanterns.
