Construction of Wastewater Collection Treatment and Drainage System (Development Phase)

Ba Ria Vung Tau province closely located to Ho Chi Minh City is one of the provinces in Vietnam with a rapid economic growth and consequently severe pollution. Phu My is the location of the deep sea port of Ho Chi Minh City and home to heavy industries such as power generation (petro)chemical production and steel production. Both industrial and population growth put heavy pressure on the environment and have resulted in severe pollution in the groundwater and the Thi Vai River. Currently, domestic waste water is not treated at all while only industrial waste water related to heavy industry is being treated.The province recognizing the environmental problems has approved the Master plan for the sewage system of Phu My urban area in 2008. The proposed project fits within this master plan and will focus on two areas the north and the south area. In the north area the focus will be on the collection and treatment of both domestic waste water and waste water from a number of light industrial zones while in the south area the focus will be on the collection and treatment of only residential waste water. The project is defined as the design deliver yinstallation and subsequent use of a waste water collection and treatment system. The project consists of the following items:- The design and construction of two waste water treatment plants with a capacity of 21,700 m3/day and 8,000 m3/day- A collection network with 4 pumping stations- A technical assistance programme in management development O&M and customer relations.
