A major problem in the city of Cape Town is the inequitable and inefficient urban spatial structure of the city which excludes about one third of the citys inhabitants living in the Metro South East (MSE) from full economic and social participation in society. Khayelitsha is the largest partially informal township in MSE and is reputed to be the largest and fastest growing township. There are several public transportation routes and a train track route available but the radius and its coverage of this infrastructure is totally insufficient. The project is defined as the construction operation and maintenance of a stretch of 6-7km semi-dedicated bus lane from Khayelitsha to the N2 related PTI facilities and the management of these facilities. The facilities consist of transfer stations including facilities for commercial and social services stops and the development of a feeder system. This project is part of a larger Intermodal Transportation Project developing corridors. The project would lead to safe reliable and affordable integrated public transport facilities between Khayelitsha and neighbouring areas such as Philippi on one hand and the city centre on the other.
