Realisation of two water supply plants for rural areas (Implementation Phase)

Ba Ria Vung Tau province has a population of approximately 1 million inhabitants. The project area is a rural area inhabited by approximately 115,300 persons. Currently, only 51% of the households is connected and receives water. However, water quality is not up to the standards set by the Vietnamese government because most of the WTPs in place are outdated and overstretched. The remainder of the population uses unsafe or polluted untreated or poorly treated water by collecting rainwater digging wells or buying expensive bottled water. This lack of drinking water causes diseases and hampers economic development.The project is defined as the development design construction commissioning operation and maintenance of complete stand-alone drinking water supply systems (WTPs): two new WTPs and upgrade of three existing WTPs including raw water intakes and existing distribution network. The two new WTPs are proposed in Da Ban and in Song Hoa situated in the western and eastern part of the project area. The project will provide new drinking water connections to 23,050 households (102,803 persons) so they receive safe and reliable drinking water (both new connections and additional water).
