Ghana offers many opportunities to digitalise sectors, in particular the mobility sector, including travel, transport and events. Current management and sales of travel tickets are inefficient, not transparent and lead to unnecessary loss of time and resources for both consumers and companies, as it is involves time consuming cash sales at bus stations that are prone to fraud and requires consumers to travel to the stations twice to obtain their paper tickets, which in turn also has a negative impact on the environment.Dutch start-up My Ticket Africa and its local Ghanese partner My Ticket Ghana Ltd have developed web-based management and e-ticketing software system that provides more efficient and cost-effective access to transport to consumers using the platform and also contributes to the digital transformation of companies at the same time which contributes to transparency, cost-effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability. To prepare for future investments in Ghana, Technical Assistance (DGGF-TA) provided support to My Ticket Africa and My Ticket Ghana to validate the market. The project included the set-up of a local entity, the purchase of hardware, a commercial pilot with local Ghanese launching partners and the development of a bankable business plan based on pilot results to attract future venture capital investments. The validation was successful and supported 8 FTE direct jobs – of which 7 jobs involve youth under 25 years –, 38 indirect jobs and provided sustainable knowledge transfer by training 35 people. Furthermore the project has led to 2,500 test users amongst consumers and secured several implementation partners which demonstrated the potential of the platform to reduce unnecessary losses for companies with 20% and to improve access to transportation services for its consumers. My Ticket Africa is now looking to attract venture capital to upscale its activities in Ghana and launch nationally, which may lead to 10-15 new jobs, the digital upskilling of employees of implementation partners and will contribute to the digital transformation and sustainability of the transport and travel sector in the country.
