The public drinking water coverage in N’Djaména, the capital of Chad, is less than 30% of its population. Without intervention, this situation would deteriorate due to a lack of investments, the low operational performance of the water system and the rapidly increasing number of inhabitants of the city. The D2B-studies, carried out by Cabinet Merlin in the period December 2017-June 2020, provided an intervention framework in phases, aiming at reaching the national objective of 80% drinking water coverage in the agglomeration of N’Djamena by 2030.The Priority Program is the first phase of intervention (2021-2024). It includes:- rehabilitation of the existing network- development of a new groundwater catchment area and construction of a transmision line- increase of the storage capacity- extension of the distribution network- realisation of new individual connections- technical assistance to improve the managerial and operational capacity of the national operator Société Tchadienne des Eaux. The Priority Program is cofinanced by RVO (30 MEUR), the Agence Française de Développement (15 MEUR), the European Union (15 MEUR) and the Government of Chad (5 MEUR).The implementation phase started in January 2021, with the mobilisation of the Project Management Assistant (STUDI International), who will support the tendering process of all implementation contracts. The construction works are expected to start in 2022.
