The Newton Fund builds research and innovation partnerships with countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America to support economic development and social welfare, tackle global challenges and develop talent and careers. Known in Malaysia as the Newton-Ungku Omar Fund and established in 2014, the UK has committed to spending up to £35 million between 2015 and 2021 in support of the Fund, with matched funding provided by the Malaysian government. The Fund supports joint research, innovation and capacity development programmes. The current running programme is Newton Fund Impact Scheme. Our main partner for the Scheme is the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT). "
