In the cyclone region in the southeast of Madagascar, especially in January and February, the poorest suffer from the consequences of the storms. Heavy rain and flooding are so predictable that Welthungerhilfe has set up an early warning system here, following the principles of the global "START Network", through which funds can be called up quickly and easily in the immediate run-up to a cyclone. In this way, the most vulnerable households in the affected communities can be provided with cash immediately after the storm, for example, so that they do not suffer for long, but can provide for themselves.
