Natural Justice aims to support vulnerable indigenous peoples and local communities to adequately address climate justice challenges as part of the African Activists for Climate Justice (AACJ) project in Ethiopia. In this case, NJ leverages on over 10 years’ experience in community-centered legal empowerment methodologies, participatory action research and other social mobilization strategies. A comprehensive analysis of the operating policy and legislative framework governing climate and environmental issues in Ethiopia has been conducted, to understand perspectives around state policies on climate and environmental matters, identify strong legal hooks with which local and indigenous communities can use to assert their rights and to ap out key institutions as well as gaps, which could form the basis for policy reform work.
