Promoting Civilian Protection in Yemen

The overall objective of this project is to promote the civilian protection in Yemen by influencing and raising the awareness of decision makers, local and international actors on the situation of human rights through the documentation of the violations of human rights in 22 governorates, developing of an annual report on the human rights situation as well as study analyzing the issue of shrinking civic space. These publications will be released within a well-designed advocacy campaign that will include the production of podcasts, short videos and online meetings with local and international actors. Furthermore, Mwatana will maintain its work on providing legal support to the victims of human rights violations; victims of arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance and torture at 17 governorates through a well trained and experienced team of field and central lawyers. A special attention will be given to the cases of the most vulnerable groups like journalists, religious minorities, as well as SGBV victims. Also, Mwatana through this project will work to promote accountability for perpetrators of human rights violations and redress for victim’s through the identification of possible pathways and strategies for pursuing criminal accountability for Yemen and publishing a public report to evaluate potential routes towards criminal accountability for Yemen, as well as raising awareness amongst the Yemeni community about justice options through the production of a short video and an accessible fact sheet in Arabic aimed at a broader audience across Yemen, and will train Mwatana staff on documenting and preserving Information related to abuses in Yemen so that the team become able to report and research on serious violations of international humanitarian law and gross violations of human rights in Yemen with a justice lens and will conduct advocacy meetings with key states and international mechanisms on Yemen, strengthen and support international investigations into Yemen abuse.
