The IWRM programme is an initiative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands that aims to improve the management of water resources in Mozambique through institutional development and capacity building. Although the implementing partners (IPs) share similar objectives and goals, the program design responds specific needs of each IP and their intervention areas. Specifically, the purpose of the programme for each IP is the following: DNGRH / PROCADI (Projecto de Capacitação e Desenvolvimento Institucional à Direcção Nacional de Gestão de Recursos Hídricos) - strengthen the technical and institutional capacity at the strategic level for the development and management of water resources for socio-economic development and increased resilience to climate change. DNAAS / PRODIAS (Programa de Desenvolvimento Institucional de Abastecimento de Água e Saneamento) - build capacity within DNAAS for the operationalization of various strategies and programmes for Water Supply and Sanitation. ARA Centro, IP - support the institutional development and consolidation of ARA-Zambeze for providing tangible results to stakeholders in the river basin. ARA Norte, IP - support the institutional development of ARA-Norte to manage the risks and seize the opportunities associated with off-shore gas exploration and on-shore mega investments in the gas industry, as well as to develop investments in small infrastructure. Through these initiatives, the IWRM programme aims to contribute to sustainable social and economic development and promote water safety and security based on IWRM principles for at least 1.500.000 people.
