National Implementation Unit Sustenance and Capacity Enhancement

: The project aims at enhancing and sustaining capacity in the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry – the EIF Focal Point, to successfully implement Zambia’s trade expansion activities, in general and the EIF in particular. The overall objective of the project is therefore, to reinforce and sustain capacity in the EIF Focal Point to effectively plan, implement and coordinate EIF and trade expansion activities. Specific objectives of the proposed intervention are: i. To sustain the positions of National Trade Expert and Focal point Advisor ii. To enhance the human resource and operations capacity in the NIU; and iii. To facilitate and enhance the operations of the TEWG and improve the coordination of trade expansion activities. By sustaining the positions of National Trade Expert and the Focal Point Advisor, and facilitating the recruitment of a Projects Officer, the project will be contributing to capacity building and sustenance in planning and implementation of trade expansion activities in general, and enhancing capacity in the preparation of Tier 2 proposals. The project will also provide support to the TEWG. A properly functioning TEWG resulting from the support provided under this project will assure better stakeholder coordination. By supporting and facilitating the operations of the TEWG, the project will also be contributing to implementing the aid for trade and the larger trade development as embedded in the FNDP and the PSDRP, as well as furthering trade mainstreaming.
