States have obligations to refrain themselves from violating human rights; prevent violations of human rights by third parties; take measures necessary for ensuring the enjoyment of human rights by providing the right holders opportunities to obtain satisfaction of the basic needs as recognized in human rights instruments which cannot be secured by personal efforts; and finally, to promote human rights as natural right to be enjoyed by all. Never the less, studies and surveys show that in Ethiopia, there are considerable gaps in fulfilling the human rights obligations, ensuring good governance and maintaining peace. This project is initiated to contribute to the effort of the government in fulfilling its obligation. The project aims at improving the protection and respect of human rights, Promotion of Good Governance and enhancing conflict management and Peace Building efforts in Ethiopia. The project adopts advocacy and Capacity building as major strategies. The systemic problems are dealt with through advocacy and lobbying efforts for policy improvement, promulgation and amendment of laws and procedures, and establishment of institutions that help improve human rights, rule of law and good governance. Building the capacity of personnel of Justice Sector institutions to ensure an effective justice system, guarantee the supremacy of the law and maintain full respect of human rights is the second approach of the project. The project outcome are; 1. Enhanced protection of suspects? rights in pre-trial and trial process in Ethiopia 2. Improved policy, legislative and institutional environment in the country 3. Enhanced Status of peace in Ethiopia 4. Reduced prevalence of Child Marriage (CM) and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) 5. Reduced prevalence of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Ethiopia by end of 6. Enhanced freedom of expression and thought in Ethiopia 7. Enhanced human rights friendly (sensitive) fight of terrorism, extremism and fundamentalism 8. Enhanced prisoners? rehabilitation in Ethiopian prisons
