Research for Development Portal (R4D)

CABI has a long history of developing electronic information management systems, so was well placed to undertake a review with DFID, looking at how the organisation manages its research information. During the review process, CABI and its partners in the Communications and Information Management Resource Centre (CIMRC) consortium worked closely with DFID, facilitating workshops with more than 30 of its partners. The purpose was to gain understanding of how these players would use information on DFID-funded research to improve their workflows and efficiency. Feedback from the participants enabled CABI to draw up a specification that met their needs. The key objective was to build a research portal, which would bring together information across all the research sectors (rural livelihoods, health, education, social sciences and engineering). R4D is that research information portal.
