Description of Project: Development Gateway (DG) conducted a detailed study of the demand for, supply of, and uses of government-produced official data in Nepal. A great deal of information about finances, government programs, demographics, etc. is produced by – and available to – Nepali government stakeholders and thus a report of this nature proved to be a useful addition to discourse in this realm. Drawing upon our deep ties with the Government of Nepal, DG assessed (1) how these data are collected and shared, (2) how these data are used by government and other stakeholders, and (3) what opportunities exist for using official government data more effectively.
