The IRC will design and implement a community engagement intervention, including activities such as regular communication with communities, establishment of community-based focal points, partnering with local community-based organisations, and formation of community feedback mechanisms. The primary outcome of this research is improved Infection Prevention and Control Measures (IPC) in health facilities in western Uganda, through building accountability and strengthening relationships between health facilities and local communities. This will be demonstrated by improved measurable IPC scores in facilities during preparedness, changes in behavior and perceptions / awareness of Ebola virus disease and increase in Ebola preparedness activities (such as creation of isolation areas at health facilities) in the targeted health facility catchment areas.
