The project will contribute to the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality by working toward both project outcomes for this fund. IRC will leverage current programmes and relationships within Turkana county using a mix of successful existing and innovative new approaches. The capacity of targeted health facilities and community structures will be increased to create demand and better respond to MNH needs through a) the strengthening of existing facilities and b) introducing new community facilities in the form of innovative maternity waiting homes (MWHs), an approach that will increase access and quality of MNH services in underserviced locations. This strategy will allow IRC to support the government in exploring new ways to achieve MNH outcomes while ensuring continuity of support to ongoing health system strengthening.
