The Prevention Project is conceived as a means to make a significant contribution to prevention practices through research, conceptual clarification, and integration of knowledge and expertise. As part of this effort, we set three project objectives as follows: 1. to articulate a comprehensive ‘framework’ for the prevention of systematic human rights abuses primarily (and through that link the prevention of conflict and some forms of violence secondarily) that would broaden and ‘upstream’ prevention work and take it out of the domain of crisis prevention; 2. to generate buy-in from major stakeholders (starting with the UN) to set the ground for effective implementation of the framework; and 3. to contribute to the consolidation of ‘communities of practice’ that are attuned to the potential of preventive measures.
