Electronic Know Your Customer (EKYC)

FSD Uganda is supporting the development of a technical framework that will allow Supervised Financial Institutions (SFIs) in Uganda to perform electronic know your customer (eKYC) process. The objective of this Intervention is to enable SFIs to validate and authenticate customers’ identity using the National Identification Number (NIN) from the National Identifications and Registration Authority (NIRA) ID database, for purposes of on boarding (new), update records (existing) and process financial transactions. In the future it is envisaged that this framework will also benefit other Accredited Credit Providers (ACPs) and institutions that rely on IDs as a primary method of validation.
