Digitising the Dairy Value Chain to create a Pathway for Non-collateralised Credit Extension to Farmers (Emata)

This intervention focuses on digitising the dairy value chain in Uganda, with a new application called "Emata". This application will allow dairy cooperatives to digitally record milk deliveries from their members and provide proof of receipt to each farmer showing how much they will earn once their milk is sold. Using the receipts of future earnings, the farmers are able to access credit that they can use at merchants' outlets to purchase essential inputs such as pesticides, feeds and medicines to increase their productivity.
