The projects aims a increasing the resilience of the farmers and farming household and via a holistic approach to livelihood: embedding water management at village level and plug in livelihood activities such as crop management techniques (via increased knowledge of good agricultural practices), gender empowerment, alternative livelihood opportunities (backyard poultry, second food crop, etc.).Instead of a single angled intervention (e.g. focus on the farmer only), a holistic approach to water management intervention will provide households a variety of tools for empowerment and a greater chance to institutionalize a system change for improved livelihoods.
