Lobby and advocacy

The Prevention Up Front Alliance defines ‘advocacy’ as “the strategic use of information to address unequal relations between different stakeholders in conflict prevention” . Information is the principal tool that enables the Alliance to support its civil society members to empower vulnerable actors affected by conflict, such as local communities, women, youth and ethnic minorities, as well as governments lacking knowledge or capacity, to participate in promoting conflict prevention by strengthening inclusivity, norms and institutions - the key features of the Alliance Theory of Change. ‘Lobby’ is the actual approach, in person or in writing, towards a target audience whose behaviour is to be changed in this regard.
