Conflict disrupted agriculture, trade routes and basic services, while drought and livestock disease weakened livelihoods in South Kordofan (SK). HNRP 2026 FSL Cluster findings reveals critical needs: in Abu Jubayhah 117,381 people need immediate assistance (23,507 severity 4; 19,361 severity 5), in Habila 32,419 (24,202 severity 4; 2,253 severity 5), in Al Leri 14,042 (562 severity 4). This shows severe consumption gaps and immediate mortality risk, particularly among displaced households (HHs). Yet few actors operate at scale in these hard-to-reach districts. Local markets are functioning: food is available but supply is intermittent, prices are inflated, and insecurity limits access. HHs lack income or purchasing power to meet food needs. SK also faces high rates of psychosocial distress, GBV and family separation, while our analysis showed children already missed >500 school days. Sexual violence, partner abuse, child marriage and exploitation are widespread. The UN Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism recorded 2,041 grave violations against 1,882 children in SK in 2025. 7.1% of HHs host unaccompanied or separated children (UASC). More than 50% of HHs saw at least one child exhibiting signs of psychosocial distress (UN Sec. Gen., 2024). The project will conduct group cash–supported community kitchens (CKs) providing hot meals to newly displaced HHs while injecting resources into local markets. This modality is appropriate where markets are unstable and HHs arrive without cooking assets or food. CKs allow rapid assistance at arrival points, while group-based implementation strengthens accountability, protection oversight and access for vulnerable groups. Child protection (CP) activities are mainstreamed incl. CP/GBV training, lifesaving information dissemination, risk assessments and referrals for UASC. Save coordinates with GOAL, Concern and LMI in Abu Jubayhah, with GOAL and LMI in Al Leri. In SAF controlled areas of Habila, SC is one of the few remaining actors.
