Since the first massive influx of Venezuelan migrants in 2016, SC has a solid field presence in La Guajira, Colombia, one of the three main departments where migrants enter and among the poorest and most insecure. 30% of the arrivals to are children under 18. Children in La Guajira face many protection concerns including violence, (sexual) exploitation, trafficking and recruitment into armed groups. Furthermore, 47% of Venezuelan migrant HHs were left without food in the last 3 weeks of which 39% children and 5% PLWs (SC, 2018). Almost 80% of HHs reduced meal sizes due to low food availability in Venezuela (ENCOVI, 2017; ACAPS, 2018). Returnees and migrants do not have enough resources to consume three meals a day. Save the Children (SC) will address Child Protection (CP) and food security needs in hard to reach areas and informal settlements in La Guajira, Colombia.
