Ethiopia Covid Joint Response - Lead

The key objective of the Acute Joint Response is to provide lifesaving activities in response to COVID-19. The core activities per sector are described below. Prevention and response to COVID-19 pandemic related to Food Security and Livelihoods • Drought-resistant and locally adaptable small ruminants to households whose livestock assets depleted due to COVID-19 induced restrictions • Small grants to support the start-up of Income Generating Activities for those whol have lost their livelihoods due to COVID-19 • Strengthen local economic initiatives through the provision of funding and support for Saving and Credit Groups • Provision of basic food items • Food vouchers in order to bridge the shortfalls in daily consumption Prevention and response to COVID-19 pandemic related to WASH • Provision of soap and hygiene kits to vulnerable households • Public spaces such as schools and market centers to be equipped with hand washing facilities • Rehabilitation of water points • Awareness raising and hygiene promotion focusing on C-19 prevention, including messages on SGBV, Mental health in the context of C-19 • Water trucking • Provision of water filters to vulnerable households • Latrine rehabilitation at treatment centers • Establishment of IPC services at treatment centers Prevention and response to COVID-19 pandemic related to Health • Health centers will be rehabilitated and quarantine facilities will be set up • Mental Health consultations with (referred) people • Provisions of psychological first aid • Training on MHPSS for health workers • Peer group discussions on strengthening community awareness on MHPSS • Establishment of a mobile rapid response team (including health officer, epidemiologist, nurse, laboratory technologist, community health workers) • Verification of disease outbreak reports/rumours and appropriate measures for containment of the epidemic • Medical equipment including disinfectant chemicals and beds for health centers treating COVID-19 • Distribution of PPE for frontline health workers and beneficiaries, including hygiene awareness and C-19 training • Screening of <5 children and PLW for essential nutrition and communicable diseases Prevention and response to COVID-19 pandemic related to Multi-Purpose Cash • Tear, SV/IRC and Cordaid provide unrestricted and unconditional cash to the most vulnerable households Protection is not included as a stand-alone sector in this response, yet it is a central element of the intervention and mainstreamed throughout. The activities are designed in a way that is sensitive to age, gender and diversity. Localization All DRA partners work with a local partners. Activities include: • Implement activities in all sectors. Including the provision of food for targeted communities, community engagement, beneficiary selection, distribution and implementation of WASH activities. • Facilitating C19-related MHPSS capacity building training to local government health workers • Providing training for volunteers and government staff on Child Protection and GBV prevention and referrals in the context of C19 • Implementing with OWDA and providing technical and organisation capacity building and support costs coverage. • Purchase and distribute PPE for frontline government health workers • Technical guidance to local partners • members of local government institutions and CSOs will involve in technical capacity building trainings, undertake joint project review, exchange knowledge and skills in high quality health service provision and project management • COVID-19 related MHPSS training to local government frontline health workers as part of the capacity building interventions Accountability • Beneficiaries will be involved in initial project consultation sessions, Post Distribution Monitoring, and Post hygiene awareness surveys; Involve direct project beneficiaries in the needs identification, location selection and targeting; • Involve community WASH committees in the management and protection of water points; • Community volunteers and leaders of SHG will help coordinate implementation of both WASH and CASH activities.
