Tekeleza Integrated Mother & Childcare

Through Tekeleza, we are improving access to high quality and financially affordable care, giving mothers and their children a fair chance at a healthy life. This project is a follow-up to Amref's "Empowering Midwives" project in 3 counties in Kenya, where we trained 45 midwives on ultrasounds and equipped them with ultrasound machines. In 2020/2021, these midwives performed over 1250 ultrasound scans on pregnant women. In the Tekeleza project, we are expanding the program and ensuring that mothers know when and how to find their way to care. Hereby we seek to strengthen the link between community health workers and frontline health workers in facilities, through mobile solutions that improve data sharing and by training the health workers. We also will support mothers to subscribe to Linda Mama, the free Kenyan health insurance for pregnant women. In addition, we will strengthen financial management of facilities. In 2021 and 2022, Amref is training 90 local health care providers, reaching 9,000 households. Based on lessons learned, we will further scale up the program.
