UTZ has contracted the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) to conduct an in-depth study on climate change impacts on tea production in Malawi. This study is part of the overall project within the Sector Partnership of UTZ on supporting the tea sector in Malawi in adapting to climate change. The objective of this specific activity is to support UTZ in the generation of climate impact gradients for tea in Malawi to identify areas with high, medium and low potential for tea production now and in 2050. The expected results of this projects are a finalized report on the assessment of the climate change impacts on the distribution of Malawian tea production. Working with UTZ, the CIAT working group will develop a detailed report of the opportunities and risks from climate change in Malawi. this report will serve as a baseline to help future projects to guide climate smart practices and supply chain interventions in the tea sector in the country.
