Background Each of the 17 provinces in Lao PDR has a provincial public water utility (PNP) that is responsible for supplying treated water to the customers in urban area. Since 2017, World Waternet and PNP Luang Namtha collaborate in a Water Operators’ Partnership under the WaterWorX programme, financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Our objectives Our partnership aims to contribute to improved access to drinking water for 85,000 people in Luang Namhta and 1 million people in Laos. Improved access to safely managed sanitation services Integrated water resources management through cooperation with stakeholders in the field of drinking water supply, wastewater treatment and (groundwater and surface) water quality Improved efficiency of water use In regards to climate change, we focus on integrated mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning into planning and operations With support of Invest International and in collaboration with Royal Haskoning DHV, a Feasibility Study is under development to support eight PNPs in improving and developing water supply systems in their service area.
