The project was more focused on the practical component and implementation of the tools elaborated in the first phase. In this sense, the project was following the entire election campaign, voting day, counting of results, as well as the dissemination of partial results. In this regard, the IDM continued to gather elements for advocacy in the next revision of the electoral legislation. The election campaign ran with high levels of violence. On the one hand, electoral violence and, on the other, non-electoral violence. It was also evident that the provinces of Nampula, Zambezia, Tete, Gaza and Niassa remained the most violent during the campaign period. IMD as coordinator of the “Peace Room” considers that the incidents that occurred in the election campaign were motivated by: (i) Political intolerance, which still characterizes democratic coexistence in Mozambique. (ii) Some non-compliance with basic road safety measures, as well as where large numbers of members and supporters of political parties gather. (iii) Some perception of impunity and lack of accountability to violators of the law, and (iv) Lack of preparation and guidance of campaigners regarding electoral legislation and elementary issues such as where campaign materials may or may not be fixed.
