TradeMark Africa's Zambia Country Programme works to transform Zambia from a landlocked country into a land-linked trade hub by adopting an integrated corridor approach along the Dar es Salaam, North-South, and Beira corridors, operating since 2020 alongside an economy where mining dominates export earnings but agriculture employs the majority of the population. The Programme's flagship physical infrastructure investment is the Nakonde OSBP upgrade, a critical gateway on the Dar es Salaam Corridor, where chronic clearance delays exceeding 60 hours are being addressed through new access roads, buildings, ICT systems, and a drive-through cargo scanner, complemented by the already-operational Mchinji–Mwami OSBP with Malawi, the first bilateral OSBP in Zambia's history, officially launched in December 2022. Underpinning these physical investments, the Programme advances digital customs reform through ASYCUDA upgrades, a Single Window, smart gate installation at Kasumbalesa, and cross-border data exchange with Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and South Africa; strengthens SPS and standards capacity including an upgraded phytosanitary laboratory at Nakonde; supports critical raw materials and agricultural value chain export competitiveness through standards and testing improvements; and promotes inclusive trade for small-scale cross-border traders, particularly women.
