South Sudan Country Programme

TradeMark Africa's South Sudan Country Programme works to build the trade facilitation foundations needed to diversify a heavily oil-dependent economy and deepen South Sudan's integration into the East African Community, operating along the Northern and LAPSSET corridors since 2013. The Programme's most significant physical intervention is the Nimule/Elegu One Stop Border Post, the entry point for over 80% of goods into South Sudan, including humanitarian aid. Complementing this, the Programme strengthens the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards through laboratory upgrades in Juba and Nimule, regulatory alignment with international standards, and NTB monitoring, including a reduction in roadblocks between Nimule and Juba, and is also advancing digital customs and border management systems, long-term institutional capacity building with customs and transport regulators, and targeted support for women- and youth-led agri-businesses to broaden the benefits of trade beyond the oil sector.
