TMA recognizes that SMEs in Burundi often lack essential skills and tools to access regional and international markets. These capacity gaps are fertile ground for recurring barriers such as informal cross-border exports, unregulated export restrictions, quality inconsistencies and product rejects and resulting losses. To address these issues, the program proposes to implement a capacity-building program on export readiness in a bid to empower SMEs to scale their operations, increase export volumes, and generate significant revenue. The program will offer comprehensive coaching on export procedures, export regulation, market intelligence, digital innovations, standards and quality requirements in a targeted effort to equip stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of international trade. Special attention will be paid to include female-led enterprises and marginalized groups operating along selected value chains. The projected outcome of this program is increased competitiveness of Burundian products in global markets; graduates from the export readiness training will enable TRAIDE (co-partner to TMA) to forge sustainable international partnerships, develop innovative business models, and attract foreign investment.
