Strengthen protective environment and empower women and girls in Yemen

The project aims to contribute to the development of an enabling environment for gender equality, where there is zero tolerance for all forms of violence against women and children in public and private life; where women’s voice, agency, leadership and decision-making is strengthened in public, private and civic sphere; and lastly where women’s economic rights, empowerment and female entrepreneurship is promoted. The project will strengthen the capacities of community-based organizations (CBOs) in 8 governorates in Yemen to enhance women’s rights, empowerment and gender equality. 18 CBOs will be supported to deliver prevention and support services for GBV survivors by running women community centers (WCC). In addition, INTERSOS will provide for trainings of local authorities and police. Protection services will include the provision of individual case management (ICM), including psycho-social first aid (PSFA) and psychosocial counselling (PSC), referrals for specialized services (internally and externally) and follow-up. Referrals include e.g. psychological counseling, legal support, cash for protection (PCA), cash for health (CHA) and livelihoods. For each CBO, INTERSOS will provide minimum incentives for 2 social workers volunteers. Besides, INTERSOS will provide for small lumpsum for running costs of the local associations. Besides ICM, CBOs will also run collective PSS sessions, complementing ICM. CBOs will run awareness raising sessions on protection related topics for men, women, boys and girls. Awareness raising and collective PSS activities will be conducted at the WCCs. Livelihood is one of the main components of the project, where CBOs will be supported to run livelihood courses, aimed at promoting women’s social-economic empowerment and female entrepreneurship
