The project is about improving maternal health. The Government of India, inspite of having elaborate maternal and nutritional delivery mechanisms & structure in place, like the National Health Mission, ICDS and PDS; the maternal mortality and malnutrition rate, especially amongst marginalized community, is still very high. Both social structural system and poor delivery mechanisms play a contributory role to this abysmal situation. Hence the project seeks to bring change in the lives of the people by advocating for transformation in the social structural system and maternal health & public food delivery mechanism, in 420 villages of 18 districts spread over the six poorest states of India. It is expected that 1,86,000 women/pregnant women will be directly benefitted from this program through a multipronged approach (1) by increasing awareness and capacity of the community to demand for quality & affordable maternal health services and entitlements related to nutrition like ICDS,PDS etc.(2) empowering community to participate actively in planning and distribution of resources at village level; ensuring that there are mechanisms in place to promote greater transperency and accountability (3) working with communities closely to ensure that traditional practices and age old belief that contribute to maternal death and malnutrition are eliminated. ;
