This project aims to create an enabling environment for implementation of market-led energy access solutions for people living and working in urban informal settlements and slums in sub-Saharan Africa, through private-public partnerships. E4I will lead Work package 2: Designing and piloting energy access implementation models led by the private sector. This will also include route-to-market support to companies, and comprehensive mapping of the financing landscape and opportunities for the private sector to leverage. The project will provide grant support to energy service providers to pilot their businesses in selected informal settlements. E4I will also be actively involved in the third pillar by disseminating knowledge products from the second pillar such as clean cooking access case studies, financing reports, the evaluation model, among others. We will also work closely with ICLEI Africa in sharing lessons learnt through webinars and facilitating peer-to-peer exchanges between the project cities. We will also co-develop and publish briefs with policy recommendations for energy planning and intervention for urban areas in SSA. In addition, we are supporting ICLEI Africa in conducting multi-level dialogues between the public sector, energy service providers, and other relevant stakeholders as part of the first pillar.
