IDS and the IDS Centre for Rising Powers and Global Development has been selected to be the role of UK Anchor Institution for Chinese development co-operation with the UK by DfID China. This is to build upon the increasing need for strong and regular collaborative links between researchers in the UK and in China to build long-term cooperation on a variety of development research topics. Chinese and UK research councils are working together more closely nowadays to organise joint calls. New UK funds such as the Newton Fund and Prosperity Fund are also creating new opportunities for China-UK collaboration. This project will create an institutionalised platform for UK and Chinese researchers and government policy actors to work together to respond to new joint opportunities. IDS will manage a number of collaborative initiatives, especially with the China International Development Research Network (CIDRN). This will include summer school visits for Chinese students, events by development experts, fellow visits to top UK universities and joint publications of an IDS bulletin amongst other activities.
