The Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme was developed by the Government as one of its National Social Protection Strategy (NSPS) flagship programmes to empower extremely poor, disadvantaged and vulnerable populations in the country. LEAP is a conditional cash transfer programme for Ghana\'s poorest households. In 2012, over 68,000 households received a cash grant. The Government committed to extend this coverage to 200,000 households by 2016. It is the government\'s intention that the expansion of the programme will serve as a long term social protection measure for the extreme poor in Ghana.
