Theory of Change: IF we increase experts’ (religious and secular) and young leader’s social, civic and cultural understanding of religion and democracy through active engagement in dialogue on intra- and inter-religious tolerance and active citizenship, THEN they will be better equipped to contribute to policies, counter narratives, and decision making that fuel suspicion, mistrust and conflict, and instead encourage more tolerance and understanding of other groups across all social strata. This should promote resilience of young people in particular to extreme narratives, and build confidence between different religious/secular groups as project stakeholders should feel a part of more supportive, understanding networks, and be able to transfer greater empathy and understanding of diversity and different perspectives onto wider beneficiaries; in turn, this has the potential to significantly contribute to a more cohesive and democratic society, as well as reduce conflict.
