The project expands the reach and depth of innovative inter-operable platforms developed under the previous DFAT-funded BASIC BANGSAMORO project, including ALERT’s Resource Use Management Planning System (RUMP); Violent Conflict-Monitoring System (CONFLICT-ALERT), and the Violent Extremism Early Response Network (VE-ERN). The project addresses four (4) important needs: (1) the need to provide socio-economic alternatives and opportunities for youth and women to prevent their capture by violent extremism; (2) the need to end the enduring violence from land and other resource-based conflicts, and to create a conducive environment for long term economic growth; (3) the need to create conditions that will facilitate the entry of conflict-sensitive businesses and investments in conflict affected areas; and, (4) the need for inclusive legislation that enhances Bangsamoro autonomy and strengthens anti-discrimination rules and policies at the national and regional levels. PREVENT The project aims to address the following important needs: 1. The need to have a nuanced and comprehensive approach to addressing vulnerabilities to violent extremism; 2. The need to understand the drivers of violent conflict and harness collective responses that is context-specific and multi-faceted; and 3. The need to provide socio-economic and development opportunities for youth and women to prevent their capture by violent extremism.
