The overall objective of this action is to reduce social and political marginalisation of young people in Itombwe. The specific objective is to strengthen young men and women’s leadership in Itombwe to contribute to socio-political change for peace in their communities. Complementing I4S stabilisation interventions in the wider Plaine de la Ruzizi, the project will achieve this by building trust between youth and with community leaders, government and security actors. It will expose young people to alternative solutions (including through exchange visits to other parts of DRC and the wider Great Lakes region) and strengthen youth groups’ abilities to jointly implement inclusive solutions that address the causes of community level violence. It will target young men and women who are members of, or are vulnerable to becoming members of, armed groups in the region, and has a specific focus on strengthening the role of young women in change leadership. Community level peace dialogues will enable development of a common vision for peace. The project will strengthen the leadership skills and capacities of young people, as well as their ability to use dialogue and advocate actions to call for appropriate responses by administrative and customary authorities
