SAFE: The project aims to create space for Liberians in four central counties to engage in regular discussions with LNP officers, and to ensure that beneficiaries have a clear understanding of their rights and the mechanisms through which they can seek to hold officers accountable for neglect and wrongdoing. On the other side, LNP officers will be given training in how to peacefully resolve conflicts and respect the rights of citizens, and to communicate with community members the budgetary and capacity restraints that may at times make it difficult for them to conduct their duties. Greater communication between stakeholders in the security sector, as well as a stronger flow of information are expected outputs based on the project activities. Project activities have been developed around three expected results: Citizens increase awareness about their rights and obligations and those of security and justice institutions including complaints mechanisms (ER1); Citizens analyse, monitor, report and address the security and justice situation in their communities (ER2); CSOs promote greater accountability and transparency in the security and justice sector (ER3). NRM: This project aims to strengthen communities’ participation in the peaceful management of Liberia’s natural resources building on the 2014 Humanity United funded pilot project “Working towards peaceful natural resource exploitation in Liberia” in Bomi County. Our approach aims to support citizens’ voice on natural resource management through equipping those negatively affected by resource exploitation to engage more effectively with state and economic actors. We will do so by supporting communities in Liberia’s Bomi County to analyse the conflict context, forge horizontal linkages at community level, and develop strategies which promote dialogue and peace. We will also explore opportunities for engagement with extractive companies active in the target areas.
