"The project will target the negative impacts of rapid urbanization in the capital city of Bangladesh, where the marginalized people tend to bear a disproportionate share of short and long term impacts of climate change and susceptibility to various disasters. Through this action, Save the Children International (SCI) and Plan International will provide technical support to the disaster management and education authorities of the Government of Bangladesh to strengthen the existing urban resilience mechanisms. SCI and Plan International will work holistically to improve the existing risk reduction mechanisms of communities, institutions and critical infrastructures such as schools and hospitals. As the urban cities such as Dhaka and Narayanganj are also known as the business hubs of Bangladesh, making private sector accountable towards the community through Corporate Social Responsibility would be a value addition of this action. With community based actions, the project will endeavour to make the communities in particular the Disaster Management Committees (DMC), children, youth and women groups, better prepared to take actions against urban disasters. The project will influence the institutionalization of Ward DMCs and urban community volunteers where ECHO partners had already put in significant effort in the last cycles. SCI and Plan International have successfully achieved the endorsement of Disaster Risk Reduction in Education and Education in Emergencies into the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education level and this action will continue the institutionalization process of School-Based Disaster Preparedness into the higher secondary education level. Knowledge management consists of building upon the knowledge and lessons from activities tailored to build urban resilience, in order to ensure long term sustainability, better quality programming and more effective implementation. SCI and Plan International will incorporate this necessity through efficient knowledge management in the form of operationalize a national information system to provide effective coordination and knowledge for humanitarian agencies.
