The project will support El Nino and drought affected families in Lautem Municipality, Timor-Leste. It will implement 3 key activities: 1) distribute maize seeds along with a package of locally appropriate vegetable seeds to 1,500 of the most vulnerable households living in northern coastal areas in Lautem Municipality; 2) repair / renovate water two supplies in two of the most affected communities (one in each); and 3) disseminate information about coping with droughts using available materials designed through other projects. The results of the project will also be used to draw attention to the situation and vulnerabilities of Timor-Leste's rural population to drought and climate change with the aim of leveraging further funding for longer term solutions. The project will be implemented on the ground by Plan's local partner NGO, Fraterna with whom Plan worked to implement its 2015-16 drought response.
