The Strengthening Inclusive Partnerships for Smallholders in Rain-fed Areas (SIPRA) project will bring about transformative change for smallholders in West Sudan. It will establish inclusive partnership modalities between organised producers (with sustained increased income and selling capacities) and a motivated private sector with fair modalities for engaging with producer groups, focusing on empowered women and youth. Through strengthened agro-SMEs sourced by large agri-businesses, investors and sellers’ reach will sustainably be linked to smallholder producers. An enabling business and policy environment will continually be fostered through advocacy and engagement with key stakeholders and knowledge institutions on barriers impacting actors in the value chain. Driving the programme is the food systems approach and market-driven strategies which will select value chains that are in sustainably high demand, and ideally linked to export markets (such as oil seeds, gum arabic and livestock etc). The project will reach an estimated 2,460,000 individuals, and directly target 132,000 individuals (22,000 households, a realistic reach for the type of targeted interventions required).
