The programme contributes to the Nepal Risk Reduction Consortium (NRRC) an initiative which aims to support the Government of Nepal in developing a long term Disaster Risk Reduction Action Plan. The programme is centred around community-level multi-hazard risk reduction interventions targeted at 66 communities and a mass communication campaign to raise the awareness of the entire population of Kathmandu Valley about the risks they face and risk reduction actions they can take to protect themselves and their families. It also seeks to improve the NRCS’s capacity to respond to disasters. Key activities: • Decrease risks encountered by 66 vulnerable communities through community based strategies to enhance awareness, organisational preparedness and resilience. • Develop an earthquake preparedness mass communication campaign targeting 2 to 4 million people. • Strengthen capacity of NCRS to respond to a major disaster emergency within the national disaster management system. ;
