Boke Eye Care

Objective: To improve the eye health condition by reducing the prevalence of blindness from 1.2% to 0.8% in Boke region from 2012 to 2014. Key activities : • Eye care service delivery: Hospital based surgery (cataract, glaucoma etc.); • Organize training/retraining of 2838 Community Distributors in 5 Districts for screening and referral of cataract cases, TT and CDTI, for 3 days; • Organize training sessions for 300 students from health school for screening and referral of cataract cases and TT; • Organize session training/retraining of 5 doctors and 30 Community health officers in PEC and CDTI; • Organize a training session for five teachers per district in assessment of visual acuity in the School; • Carry outreaches per year; • Develop advocacy and communication plan; • Organize Quarterly monitoring of project with Partners; • Conduct mid-term and final evaluation. The change it aims to bring The project is increasing of cataract surgical rate, trachoma and childhood blindness control and the development of comprehensive eye services. The approach is strengthening of the health systems using the HSS framework. The framework will create synergy in the implementation of the six building blocks (Governance and Leadership, Information, Financing, Health workforce Capacity building, Medical products and technology, Services delivery) and attributes and innovation in a development partnership with stakeholders beyond pro health. The project will improve a human resources in Ophthalmology, has made available the equipment and consumables through the DESSO, who is already involved in this direction. The project will also focus on the role of a social inclusion of all citizens to ensure good care. Emphasis will be put on Children at school age in the early detection of low vision in school.
