Transparency International’s Defence and Security (TI-DS) aims to ensure that defence and security institutions are accountable to their publics and subject to civilian democratic control and oversight and that corruption risks are reduced. Over the 3 years of this programme, using our key tools of capacity development, research, engagement and advocacy, we will work with TI Chapters across North and West Africa (Sahel) region, and with strategic regional and global actors to identify gaps in systems, strengthen the evidence base for what works, offer solutions and policy recommendations, and advocate for the uptake of these, in order to advance the anticorruption and integrity agenda in defence and security frameworks globally, and contribute to the advancement of human security in the region of focus. The programme will focus on three main areas: - A focus on human security – specifically on the integration of anticorruption norms and practices into peacebuilding, development, and human rights. - Strengthening civic engagement on defence and security issues, so that civil society is better equipped to engage with governments and build effective, systemic oversight of defence sectors - gender sensitivity, will allow us to develop the evidence base to define the relationship between (defence sector) corruption, conflict and gender
